Noise reduction

Options
We have our central heating boiler installed inside a unit in our kitchen / diner.

It is not particularly loud, but nevertheless irritating. I was hoping we could reduce the noise by installing insulating board on the inside of the cupboard.

Have you any suggestions? Has anyone tried this?

Closed cell foam preferably with a pyramidal structure facing the boiler. The shape deflects the noise and the foam airpsaces help to attenuate it. I'm not a boiler expert but presumably this wouldn't be bad for the boiler as they are often put in small cupboards and draw their air from outside.

Hi Jayne, Thanks for your response. I was thinking along the lines of sound deadening as fitted to underside of car bonnets. Panels which are attached to the inside of machinery cabinets may be more suitable, as they are only 10mm thick.

check the space between the boiler and the unit. makers state minimum dimensions for (heat) clearance.

Heat is not an issue, all boilers are fitted inside a case. I do appreciate it is necessary to provide ventillation and free air circulation.
