How long have you had it?

I suspect that the inside of your laptop is clogged up with dust and fluff and so the fan is working overtime trying to keep it all cool.

You need to get inside the case and have a look then clean out all the grot from the vents and around the fan and things should go back to normal.

It's only about a year old.

More than old enough to be clogged up. Desktops don't suffer quite so badly as there is a lot more room inside them and they have bigger fans.

Laptops have small air inlet vents that get clogged easily and the fans are a lot smaller too. It doesn't take much to stop them being efficient.

Don't ignore this. If your cooling system can't do it's job your CPU and other bits will run hot and this can lead to them failing. Fixing that would be a lot more expensive that cleaning out the crud!

Don't just buy one of those cans of compressed air and try to blow it out, all you do in most cases is pack it in even tighter.

Have a look on YouTube, there are lots of 'How to clean your laptop' tutorials.

same applies to you - it's overheating and cutting out to protect the processor. Clean it out before you do permanent damage :)
