Mis-sold Sky TV Contract

Moneybox

Phoned up sky 6 months ago to leave. Was offered 20% off and advised to phone back in 6 months. It only discounted it to £40 for the complete package but decided to continue. I phoned up yesterday to cancel unless an offer was available and was told I was in a 12 month contract as this was part of that deal.
This was never explained on the phone (I understand these are recorded calls and will be asking for a transcript) and nothing was sent in writing.
Now feel really annoyed that they even attempted to miss-sell. I will be writing to have this contract cancelled but who can I report this to as I expect it is common practice .
Is it the misrepresentation act that i should mention (any idea of year?). Thanks.

Are you looking for the Misrepresentation Act 1967?0

Hopefully you will get it sorted, I have to say I have had several retention deals over the years and every time they have informed me that by accepting the deal I would be locking into another 12 month contract.0

yes i phoned sky last week to cancel sky movies, they offered me 20% off to keep it and at no point did they say I would be locked in for another 12 months. However I then receive a letter a few days after to "confirm" that I had agreed to stay for another 12 months. I was tempted to complain but I have no intention of cancelling Sky so I thought there wasn't much point. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I have had several of these deals and each time on the phone I have been specifically told that it does not lock me into a contract and as such I am still free to leave at any time. I have never received any written comfirmation of any deal though.
I only have the TV though, I don't have broadband or phone with them if that makes any difference.0 -

My vague understanding of sky is that changing your subscription doesn't change your contract term - so if they give you free Sky Movies or something like that, that shouldn't affect your contract. A discount on your existing package will nearly always start a new contract though.0 -

Well if I was told I was under contract if I tried to leave now, I'd be claiming the same mis-selling as the OP.0 -

The same thing that happened to 194934lane has happened to me. Have you got it sorted?0

Yep. Logged my complaint and got a phone call. Interestingly have done the same again and they again have not mentioned of any tie in. Will find out in 6 months.0
