Can you please let me know whether I have understood this correctly or is there some other calculation in place?

what are the actual figures you are putting in to the comparison sites?

    You need yearly kWh figures

I have been looking to switch my energy supplier due to the high bill but I am still not sure how it will help me if my current consumption remains as is or is reduced slightly. With my current supplier, I pay 14p per kWh as the day rate.

If I see other energy suppliers, they charge a flat rate of more than 15p per kWh which is more than my current supplier, but when I go to comparison sites, they indicate I could save around 300+ pounds per year. I am not understanding how they are deriving this figure.

Can you please let me know whether I have understood this correctly or is there some other calculation in place?

What tariff, what supplier? using monthly DD amounts on a comp site will not produce accurate results.
A typical rate on a single rate tariff is 10.5p per kWh.
    Are you on E7?
Unless you are a very low user, it makes little difference if you are on an NSC or SC tariff.

The headline cost per Kwh on the suppliers site is almost meaningless, as there will be discounts applied at different levels by different suppliers

As new2012 has said, you need to enter your Annual consumption in Kwh into a Switch site for accurate answers.
Try 'switchwithwhich' - When the list of prices comes up, press the 'Compare Tariff' icon on any of the suppliers to bring up a page that lists the fine detail of the that suppliers tariff, directly alongside that of your present supplier.
