There is no connection between 'old type' and 'unsafe'. Who told you this?
Obviously an old CU will not meet 17th Edn, but that does not automatically equate to 'unsafe'.
The main difference is that an old CU will lack any RCD protection, and may not even have MCB's.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
