Npower are crazy!

Hi all, I have just been onto Npower regarding my bills as I just cannot get my head around why I pay such a high d/d.Basically they can't figure it out either.
I signed over on 11/12/10 and from that date to 04/12/11 my electricity bill totalled £432.67 based on actual readings.
My gas from 18/04/11 to 18/10/11 was £79.62 based on actual.
Well initailly I was paying £57 d/d pm and was told after say a couple of months this would not be enough and they promptly put it up to £113pm  anyway I have been over my bills today and updated my gas reading for today which is 2550 meaning I used 152 units since 18/10/11 till today.
I added my gas £79.62 and electricity £432.67 and came out with £512.29.Although I appreciate the gas (£79.62) was only 6 months even if you quadruple that (£318.48) (which was for 80 units) and add that to the leccie (£318.48+ £432.67=£751.15) then that still does not equate to anywhere near what they are charging me per month, and yet they could not comprehend this and starting trying to say they have seasonal differences and it is worked out per kwh at different rates etc so that is how they have estimated it. How does this equate when I have been with them over 12 months and they have my actual figures?
They are ringing me back tomorrow but im not hopeful. Anyone else had this drama with paying by monthly d/d with Npower?

dont let them send you an estimated bill. ring up or put your meter readings online at the same time every month and then you should know exactly what you are paying each time the bill comes. Failing that move to scottish power, i do online readings each month - Total dd is £57 for gas and electric because i regularly put online readings each month, switch all sockets off at night and heating goes off at half ten every night. Heating off while at work until 6pm.

Thanks butterflies, they don't send me estimated I put my readings online regularly its just that despite knowing my ACTUAL usage they insist I pay a higher d/d. This is what I can't understand My consumptiona and the unit cost is fine its just the monthly d/d.From what I can see I should be paying no more than £63pm. Yet they want £75 just for gas!

The way to do it is to demand they change the dd to what you want thats what I did with scottish power. I pay the same all year so in the summer the £57 a month builds up on the gas ready for winter and by september Im in credit. If its just you living there and you work full time, just use the gas in the evening when at home, make sure all your lights in rooms you dont use are off and switch sockets off at night before bed. I have my heating on from 6.30am to 7am in morning then 6pm till 10.30pm at night. Tv on in evening and one light in lounge and laptop. Its amazing what you can save by being money savvy.
Also cancel the dd and ask for their bank details and set up a s/o from your account so you are in control.

Will that not screw up his DD discount or don't Npower give one?

Yes it will stop the ops discount, also they may no longer be eligable for the tariff.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

What a suprise no call back from Npower like they promised tonight, now I need to waste my money calling them all over again to explain the same situation and still not get any further.

Letter to head office and you should get results that way. Also at same time ask scottish power about their tariff and online meter reading and what you would like to pay based on your exact readings.

I wouldn't bank on anything as simple as a letter to head office resolving issues with Npower I'm afraid but I'd agree that putting your concerns in writing and getting written replies is your best bet

The trick I believe Npower normally pull is the old "we've looked at your useage from the last year and are going to assume you'll double your useage next year for no particular reason and bill you in advance accordingly....

I sorted mine out by calling them up, quoting numbers to them (they used to do a breakdown of how they predicted your useage on the bill) and they quickly backed down.

....this year I happen to be back with them again (after takign 2 lots of switching cash incentives) and they seem very much off their game, pretty sure my DD far too low but I'm 9 months in and they've not noticed yet so come month 12 i'll just need to drop them a cheque for the difference (after by then they'll have applied my £100 DD discount)
