Tongue was in cheek when posting the emotions bit. Just trying to point out the as much as the OP thinks, redundancy is likely to affect you.

    It might.

If there was more transparency, this debate would last one post, when someone could post up a set of verifiable figures, and that would be the end.

The problem at present is, only one team knows the rules, and they're the referee as well.
And both sides' fans are cheering them on forever.

Well excuse my French but that's bollards!!..........

There might be the links coming, but I would suggest it was possibly made up, then I will have to publicly apologise.

Lisyloo does cheer loudly for the other side to me.

I take its always like this then. So there's no point in me hanging around or ever coming back then(?) :o:(

It does tend to be polarised.

Both sides do give some helpful advice, but one side wants to make as much money as possible, others want a fair deal for all.
And I fully expect that to be rephrased by someone. :)
But the advice is normally useful, although there can be the task of weeding out the good from the bad.

As to pricing though, we'll never fix that on here.

The best point to remember, you can be self employed, you don't actually need to do anything.
I would assume you are claiming contribution based JSA for 6 months, you could even claim that while working up to a pittance. (from memory).
So you can be self employed, as a first job, as you have no work, claim the JSA, and you can't actually be unemployed as a second job.
  • Thanks PT.

    On your points:

    1. Unfortunately the insurance industry representative wasn't able to come up with answers like that at all. He had feeble weak non-answers which the BBC interviewers sensed/picked up on and he continued to flounder with no real answers at all. The thing is my car hasn't changed from one day to the next, nor have I other than to become actually less of a risk. I note your answer however is this not an "annual" scenario rather than a "on the hoof" one. I'm sure I also gave my profession rather than what my job title was at my initial policy/quote and my professiona hasn't changed, I'm still a fully paid up chartered member of a well known institution so I don't think that is an actual change.

    2. Self employed? NO CHANCE!!! The fact is THERE IS NO WORK OUT THERE!! The fact is the industry is on its knees, everyone either reigning back and shedding people or firms are going down completely.

    3. The car is MoT'd, taxed, etc. The argument which the floundering insurance industry representative put forward was the unemployed people skimp on maintenance - that's where that came from and is not applicable to me at all, my car is fully serviced and its under warranty until July 2013 so that kicks the insurance company representative's argument into touch and right out of the stadium!

Car insurance is only fair if you can get the price your want and nothing after that ever, ever changes and you never, ever get involved in an accident.

    That's a chicken and egg.
You need the PI when you do your first job.
However, to test the waters, you need to be self employed first, and see if you can get work.
The insurer won't care if you're actually rubbish at working for yourself, and never actually get a job.
Unless you do it for years, then you might as well be retired.

You don't even need to be self employed in whatever you're chartered in.
What you can't do is obviously commit fraud, by declaring you're something you're not, and claim JSA as a career, while declaring self employed builder to your insurers.

  • Note to Mods/Admins:
I tried to delete my profile but I couldn't find anywhere on my profile to do it. Can I therefore ask that a Mod/Admin delete my profile for me please. Many thanks.

There's no way to delete yourself....and MSE don't appear to do it on request. There's more than 1 million members of MSE. Deleting just 1% of them on request would be a full time job and totally mess up threads. You'll be forever Flying Tiger on MSE! You can however individually delete your posts yourself. Why not stay around and contribute where you feel you can?
  • You are obviously a Troll spouting idiotic argumentative nonsense just for the fun of it. Do not reply to any more of my posts otherwise I will make a formal complaint to the mods/admins. Thank you.

Translation: "You disagree with me, making coherent arguments that counter mine, and I don't like it."

Go ahead and report me to the admins. I think you'll find that having a differing opinion isn't prohibited in the forum T&Cs. :rotfl:

    1. No, putting stupid arguments and acting like a complete jerk was what you did, enjoying being argumentative and trolling behaviour.

    2. What age are you 12 ?

    What a jerk!

Will you listen to yourself?...please just go if you can't handle different views without resorting to name calling. If whatmichaelsays is only 12 he is clearly your older sibling.
