Just to update this thread, I applied for a Vanquis card and was accepted, apr quite high (I may be wrong as he was talking quite fast but thought he said 59.9%apr, could this be right?). ?
Yes that is probably right, my Vanquis APR is the same, they range from 29.99% to 79.99% APR0 -

Have you read the article on ways to improve your credit files?
Credit Rating: How it works and how to improve it...
You say you have poor credit - what do you mean by that? what is on your credit files? have you defaulted on payments in the past? do you have any CCJs?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

If they are 7 years old then they will not be affect your ability to get credit now, and will not be on your credit file.
You need to get copies of your credit file(s) to see what they actually show.
Once you have it you can assess whether you have anything negative on your file - or if its more likely a problem of a lack of credit history.
You say you can't seem to get a credit card - what cards have you applied for and been turned down by? have you been applying for mainstream cards or subprime cards?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I have been offered capital one card where I pay the security fund of £200, was declined with vanquish and aqua! I already got a contract 6 months ago with t-mobile, I had to pay a deposit which I received back.
I will check my file and see what it says.0 -
I think (but haven't used myself) this lets you find the right card without impacting your credit profile
