Any mechanics out there?
I hit a pothole about 4 weeks ago (pitch black country lane, hole was full of water so looked like a puddle and I was busy avoiding the 4x4 coming towards me largely on my side of the road
) I suppose at about 20 mph. Hole is probably 1- 2 inches deep, straight sided. There was a hell of a bang from underneath. Last week I noticed a distinct vibration in the steering wheel (can actually hear the windows vibrating now) and I could feel it through my bum as well. A quick look at the tyre showed a bald strip about 1 inch in from the outside edge so I thought - tracking - and went and got a new tyre and had it tracked. Garage confirmed it was out. £80 kerching, thanks very much not. But the vibration is still there, perhaps slightly less obvious but still noticeable and best driven wearing thick gloves. Could I have knocked off the balance weight? I've driven with unbalanced tyres before and usually they start to hum at particular speeds whereas I can feel this at anything about 40 and it doesn't get any worse at higher speeds. Could it be a bearing ? Had those before too, and there was always a noticeable sound and only movement when things got really bad. Could it be the suspension unit? I can't feel any other unusual handling. POSSIBLY it gets slightly worse on right hand bends but that could be my imagination.
All suggestions gratefully received! I've had a disasterous 4 weeks financially speaking and could really have done without this on top

The wheel should have been balanced when the new tyre was fitted.0

my money would be on a damaged ball joint, track rod end or bearing. jack the car up on the side so the wheel is off the floor and rock the wheel top to bottom and see if theres any play in it. you will feel a distinct bump bump if theres a problem.
best thing to do would be to take it to your local garage, and not the tracking monkeys...0 -
Sgt Pepper - duh, yeah. Should have thought of that!0

Bungle, sounds like an early visit to its Uncle Mike (who hasn't met it yet). It isn't too far off its MOT so perhaps I'll get that and the general service done all in one go. Its great having a friend who can sort it all out at a fraction of the price of a garage but I could still do without it!0
