Income Protection Policy - Payment Delays

Hi

First time here, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I was made redundant last year and have a policy with MMS Insurance (Lifestyle Protection)

The policy is for 12 months and covers most of my fixed outgoings. Each month I am sent a declaration, which I complete and return with evidence of my job seekers allowance payments and evidence of actions I have taken to find employment.

First two months were paid within a few days of sending back the form, but this month's payment is 4 weeks late. I have made numerous phonecalls to the claims department, all of which have been met with stonewalling - They have confirmed they do not need any more info from me BUT cannot tell me what the delay is about - I've fulfilled all the same criteria as in the 2 previous months, the Job Centre are "impressed" with the lengths I'm going to, to find work.

I've told MMS that I have outgoings due within the next few days and this will involve going overdrawn, having late payment charges and may affect my credit rating. I'm also concerned about not being able to pay my rent on time. MMS have simply said "I can't give you a timeline" "I can't tell you how long this will take" "I can't advise you what is being looked into" "there is nothing more I can tell you"

I'm clearly very concerned about the implications of not having the payment and would be eternally grateful for any advice anyone can offer?

Thanks

Wilts

  • I would suggest that some form of background investigation is going on into your claim. Have you had any unsual phonecalls? Unannouced visits to you or neighbours? Having said this, while claim investigations/checks are necessary, they should not delay your claim payments. There is no other reason to delay your claim if you are actually seeking work and have proven it.
