Are RBS using delaying tactics for PPI offers ?

I sent complaint for an AA (RBS) loan back 3.1.12 - I received a letter 7 days later to say they were looking at it. On Saturday 28.1.12 I received an offer letter for £19K+. It said on the letter that I did not need to reply if I accepted the offer. However, I contacted them today to check on details and I was told that it was sent in error, they could not find my offer on the system and that they would need to investigate it with the 'readers'. I wondered if anyone else was getting this type of reply. Obviously I was thrilled with the offer as they based it over 2 loans that I had paid off early and the present loan. They also stated that my PPI was to be cancelled and the monthly payment therefore reduced. Are they just stalling and what are my rights if they have made an offer ?? Any guidance would be much appreciated. THX

No. It sounds like they made an error (probably looked at someone elses and applied it to you by mistake)
what are my rights if they have made an offer ??

You have none. An error does not mean you get to keep what they offered. I am sure if the error was in their favour that you would not accept that. It works both ways.
Any guidance would be much appreciated.

Tell them you are not happy about the error and to get it sorted ASAP.

ok thanks for your response - It's just that after reading some other posts about banks sending out offers and then renaging on them I wondered if this had happened to others - also the banks really should be more careful before they send out their offers:( it's so disappointing when you think you may be expecting a payout only to be told it is a mistake !

Contacted them again today and they now have my final response on the system again!!! and the tell rep said that the final response had gone to the department dealing with drawing up the cheques - so wait and see again --will post any further details
  • Thanks for the update DLT. Out of interest, was this through the AA or the RBS PPI team?

It was through the RBS PPI team - and the letter I received on Saturday was a final response letter = they had actually gone back for two other loans that I had cleared off with them (consolidated_ to pay off loan and take out another). They had provided a breakdown of what was owing on the three loans individually. So someone has obviously had a good look at it which is why I found it strange when they said my response letter was not on system on Monday, yet the tele person today gave me all the details and said as far as she knew it had gone to the dept for cheque issuing. Who know !!?? I won't count on it until I have it in my hand !
  • Thanks for the reply :). Going by the thread on RBS / NatWest payout times, you've had a really quick turnaround there, happy days! Fingers crossed you get a result and speedy payment.

woohoo 1st of three cheques arrived today for £7600 - when contacted RBS said three cheques to be sent separately - so it has taken from 5.1.12 until now for first payment - that's not too shabby is it !!

just an update 9.2.12 - other 2 chewues not arrived yet - you would think whoever dealt with the first loan would carry on and see to others wouldn't you ?
