Alternative to Catsan?

I've tried various alternatives to Catsan and unfortunately none of the really cheap alternatives have come up to scratch (as it were!). The cheapest acceptable alternative I found was a white litter sold by Asda, which I think is called Tiger, but it's extremely heavy and I don't drive and found Asda's online delivery service pretty poor. (They let me down completely on two occasions and when I rang to find out what was happening said they hadn't enough drivers and could I come and fetch my shopping ... which I hardly could, as I don't drive and the branch wasn't easily accessible by public transport; still less could I carry a fortnight's shopping for a family! Admittedly this was a few years ago.) The best compromise I've found is the white litter sold by Sainsbury's and called Odour Control. It's very similar to Catsan and is currently around £3.30 I think.Life is mainly froth and bubble

Hi, I have two cats, both housecats and I use the wood pellett litter. At the moment 2 30liter bags from Pets at home for £18, but all supermarkets do a version and they're all much the same.
I just put one small scoop in the bottom of the tray and empty it out completely about three times a day. The litter tray is in the bathroom and my bathroom just always smells of wood (which I like)Jan 2012: £24,872.67 Feb 2012:

My cat has never had a litter tray, she goes outside in our garden and very thoughtfully buries it......0

Thanks to everyone for your replies. My 2 cats used to go outside but we recently moved house and now we dont have a catflap. They only go outside when the back door is open (not often at the moment!). I will try the wooden pellet stuff or Sainsbugs/ChAvsda's own brand and see how we get on!

I do use the clay-based clumping litter from L!dl and it's about £1.80 for 10 kilos. I find the clumping sort much easier to lift out the solids every day, so only completely change the litter once a week. That bag, which I drag home in my trusty shopping trolley lasts Stanley fortnight. He has one of those hooded trays which seems to stop any nasty odours from being apparent. It's on the landing outside the living-room and it's never obvious from any smells that he's just used it, although all of the five minutes of noisy scratching and digging does.
I'd tell anyone who is thinking of changing their cat's litter to mix them in greater and greater quantities over a couple of weeks until it's completely changed. Cats hate change and peeing inappropriately on the bed or anywhere else is often a cat's version of a "dirty protest".0
