No, just an idiot on a bike, on a public road.

".....cyclosportives are not races. They take place on open public roads, with large fields of riders (sometimes in the thousands) so different sets of rules and regulations apply than do for cycle racing."

While it is still fresh in your memory write down the colours he was wearing, colour of bike, etc. Unlikely every competitor was dressed the same. Also note the time, he may have had to go through timing points. Anything to help identify him is to your advantage.

OP, although these clowns on their racing bikes p*ss me off regularly id be inclined to leave it and get on with your life, if you do end up tracking this clown down you probably wouldnt gain anything and your insurance premiums would possibly rise if they found out.

He could pursue the clown to pay for all his repairs!

Yes he could, but once he sets the ball rolling he would have to inform his own insurance company about the accident and regardless of wether or not he managed to get any cash out of the cyclist, his future premiums could be increased.

It's hard to believe it can be that much, considering the OP drives a 1996 Golf diesel with 355,000 miles on the clock.

I would imagine most of the bikes in the event were worth more than that.

Ok, firstly what I'm trying to point out is that the organisers are responsible for making the public aware of any hazard........ Not whatever it is you seem to think im saying.

The bike damage at that speed would have been at the very least an un-ridable buckled wheel, so said cyclist wouldn't have been riding away from that.

Hmm, OP have you got a photo of the damage? The car I would imagine would be an insurance write-off for anything at all, basically.

Informing his insurer is a separate issue completely!

(In fact he breaches his policy by not informing them, irrespective of whether or not he pursues the cyclist!)

But that is irrelevant to the issue of getting the cyclist to pay for the repairs!

Quite a few years ago I was cycling to work,it was around 0655am,quite light & I was wearing dayglo waterproof jacket & trousers. As I passed a junction into a small housing estate,a car at the junction pulled out as & hit me just behind the left hand pedal area.
I'd say he was doing about 5mph,driver got out, said he didn't see me yada yada yada.
Thankfully,a workmate was following & saw the whole thing, details were swapped & away we went.
On the bike,my rear wheel was bucked, the panniers were ripped & the weld where the top forks join the frame under the saddle was snapped.
Driver, old bloke in his 70's IIRC,eventually coughed up for the repairs after my father threatened to get the police involved,as the driver was trying to getting out of paying for the damage he caused when he drove into me.
    Bike cost £80 to fix.
