ok i take that on board. can you suggest a good priced laptop that can be used for playing pc games aswell as work ?

    thanks for your advise

lots of £££ if you want a gaming lappy.

Sounds like 1. Inverter and 2. possibly a boot issue, but that may just be it's waiting for you at the "to choose the start windows normally/safe mode/ etc." from the last shutdown not being done correctly which you can't see properly 'coz of 1.

I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple :D

Depends on yr budget, I suggest you create another post as you'll get a lot of feedback if you ask a different question, state you want a lappie for work and gaming, and yr budget - lots of choice out there.

...could be the psu has given up the ghost, if you've got a multimeter/dvm handy, check it's output :)

it's quite hard to give accurate diagnosis remotely with very little detailed info ;)

Yup worth trying -especially as adapter is relatively new - although that doesnt explain the screen shaddow issue - Op says it has the right volts/amps for the lappie....
