Do they make a good, but small android phone?

I've had my HTC Legend for coming up to 2 years now so my contract is ending. I want to replace it as the phone is slow and has a very tiny amount of internal memory. I've got to the point now where if I want to download a new app, I have to find one to remove first (and that's with putting all the apps that will on to the SD card).
I got all excited about the Samsung Nexus but when I went to see it in the shop it turns out it's almost as big as my kindle! Not sure I want to carry around something that big.
So are there any nice, powerful and modern android phones out there that wont be massive when compared to my Legend?
