[quote=annie, I am interested in your remedy using plastic drinks bottle collars but I don't understand exactly what you do with them, could you elaborate?
    [/quote]

Cut the bottom off the bottle and stick the bottle in the ground over small plant eg sunflower, leave the top cap off and they will grow through the opening.
I reuse the bottom bit that has been cut off
Cut a hole large enough so that it can just fit over the bottle (upside down to to act as a barrier) and bring to rest about 3/4 way up. This should end up looking a bit like an upside down J from the side......sorry cant think of a better way to describe it, and smear with oil/vaseline.
Acts as a great mini greenhouse as well

    Happy gardening:D

Another old tip is to use grapefruit halves (after you have eaten the fruit) For some reason the slugs like to curl up cosily in them. You can then employ any method you choose of picking up and disposing of them. The grapefruit can look quite pretty in your flower beds.

Must try this with orange halves this year.

Slug pellets are vile - and if birds or frogs eat slugs that have eaten the pellets, they too die - so avoid them. My hubby and I go out every evening with a torch, small trowel and carrier bag and pick up all the slugs and snails (best done after a rain shower or when you have watered the garden). We then tie the carrier bag and put it in the wheelie bin. We have seen a drastic reduction in slugs over the last couple of years by doing this.

I do the same thing, but use a screw top milk container and drop it in the wheelie bin. If you keep on top of this, you can cut down on the breeding too, so you can actually reduce the population.

I also have a family of frogs but the slug/snail population seemed to outnumber their appetites!

I also plant out plants that are a bit older so they have more of a fighting chance to survive the onslaught!
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I put a ring of sand around the area to be protected. I find it works for me.

Don't put it too thin or it will wash away. It usually lasts through the growing season with me.

A horticultural gritty sand is best.

Also for areas arond veg which get hoed regularly, I use growing success slug pellets which don't wash away and do not harm animals, pets, birds, etc.
    I wish you......
    A sunbeam to warm you,
    A moonbeam to charm you,
A sheltering angel, so nothing can harm you.

You can buy copper rings that'll do the trick. I have one around my delphinium. For some reason the slugs and snails won't cross them. You just have to ake sure there isn't any alternative route into the delphinium via other foliage, and they'll work perfectly. Last forever too:
