Are there any foods designed to put weight on!

Yes you did read that correctly. It is for my Mother who has lost a lot of weight and can't seem to eat a lot after recovering from an illness. She feels weak all day.
I was wondering if there were any special foods which could help such as the concentrated high calorie powders which marathon runners eat before a race. The only other thing I can think of are the foods dieters try to avoid which don't fill the stomach but is absorbed quickly. Simple carbs, Glucose?

There are nutritional drinks that your doctor can describe that are not only full of calories but very nutritious as well - this sort of thing. http://www.nutridrinks.co.uk/Fortimel/View-all-products.html0

I suggest that she has a healthy but higher fat diet.
So she should include foods such as:
Nuts
Seeds
Oily fish
Avacado
Peanut butter
Carbs.0 -

In the past my fiance has had to use complan to keep his weight stable. With the help of complan and a high calorie diet he manages to put on some weight. At the moment he is 9 stone (a huge achievement for him as his body usually stays around the 8stone 7 - 8stone 10 mark and is 5ft 9 (BMI is now around 18.6 instead of 17.6-17.9) the bigger achievement is that he has gained the weight without complan this time - although he has a lot of milkshakes (he only drinks full fat milk). Complan says it is 320 cals with skimmed milk although obviously more for semi-skimmed or full fat.
Nuts are something most people can eat loads of and not get full easy. Try to get high calories that are healthy instead of unhealthy options as the nutrition is important for her.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Don't get her to eat lots of simple carbs, that could be a diabetes risk. Nutritional drinks from the doctor are a good idea, so are all the high (healthy fat) fat foods. You could also add protein or weight gain powder and extra oil to soup. Maybe put cream in her tea/coffee?Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0

years ago when I worked with older people who needed extra calories we used a product called complan, shakes that came in different flavours like choc, chicken etc.
