Installing a USB3 PCI-e Card

I've just bought a RocketU 1144A Host Controller. I tried to install it in a PCIEX 4_1 slot on my motherboard but it doesn't get recognised. It would appear there's no power going to it. I've also tried it in a PCIEX 16_2 slot. Again no lights or anything on my drive. The drive isn't an issue as when I put a USB2 device into it the card reader doesn't have any lights on, whereas when I put the same card reader into a USB2 port then it lights up, even when the PC's not switched on.
I've got a Gigabyte GA-EX85-UDS motherboard that's running perfectly apart from this expansion card. Am I right in assuming that I should just slot the expansion card in and it should work, or does it need to connect to the PSU somehow, and if so how.
Sorry for all the questions but it looked straight forward and I don't have the knowledge I'd like when it comes to computers.

To be honest, I haven't heard of that brand/host controller.
Where did you purchase it from?If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Scan International. I use them a lot for various bits and never had any problems.0

Do you mean Scan.co.uk?
The link I tried for ScanInternational doesn't work?
Scan.co.uk usually sell good equipment/parts and also have good customer service too.
Have you spoken to them about the problem you are having? If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0 -
Yes it is Scan. I've not spoken to them about it as they're closed on a Sunday and I was hoping there'd be an easy solution. This is the card I've got:

Did you install the ASM104x USB 3.0 Host controller driver? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Should still be getting power to connected devices even without a driver surely? If my post hasn't helped you, then don't click the 'Thanks' button!0

I've tried to install the drivers but it's not done anything sadly.0

As far as I can tell. I've put it in the slot it looks like it fits in judging by the 2 prong things that stick out and I've also tried it in a longer slot further down. Still no joy with power though.0

Does the card have a power connector?
IIRC USB3 can supply much more power than USB2, and several of the cards I've seen have (if my memory serves) had to be connected to a molex to supply them with enough power(In much the same way you need to connect many video cards to a power connector as well as the mobo).
