easyMoney Car Insurance Screwed Me Over!

Hello all, I need everyone's advice re my car's No Claims Bonus (NCB).
I past my driving test on the 1st March 2003. I took out car insurance on the same day with Tesco...easy so far.
I stayed with Tesco for three years, and on the 1st March 2006, I changed car and insurance provider to easyMoney (whom are underwritten by Zurich).
***So up to now, I have 3 years NCB, and I am now with easyMoney.***
In September 2006 there was some sort of clerical error, and I missed a payment. As such easyMoney promptly cancelled my policy, and as such I had to immediately take out a new policy with them.
Now it's almost 1st March 2007. I am looking at buying a new car, and as such insure my car with Sainsbury’s (as they are the cheapest for me). I called up easyMoney to check how painful it would be for me to transfer over. However I was told that if I was to change over, and not stay with them, they will only provide me with a certificate stating that I have 3 years NCB. They stated that, YES I have been with them for a year (almost), however due to the policy being stop/started like it was briefly in September 2006, then this last year will NOT be counted as 1 year NCB. They went on to state that I will have to stay with them until September 2007 if I want them to acknowledge that I have 4 years NCB. That will mean it will have taken me 18 months with easyMoney to build up 1 YEAR NCB!!!
Is it just me, or is this WRONG?
easyMoney went on to state that they had not received my NCB certificate from Tesco, and that I was to SORT THIS OUT! I accept that they need proof, but is it worth requesting from Tesco, and forwarding it on to them, or keep it for Sainsbury’s?
Please guys and gals, I really need your help. My premium will jump up £300 if I don't sort this out...if it can be sorted out.
Thanks.

Yes they are correct. They cancelled your policy in September 2006 as you missed a payment. That means the insurance you took out in March and that was cancelled in September would not have accried any no claims. You have to have the same policy for a full year for it to accrue any no claims.
The policy in September is a new policy, so that one has to run a year before it attracts a years no claims bonus.
The clerical error that meant the payment wasnt paid in September 2006, was that a clerical error on your part or their's? If it is your error then what they are saying is correct however if it was an error on their part I would argue with them that as it was their error, you should not be penalised for this.

Thanks for the quick reply.
The clerical error was my own, and not theirs. However all payments have been paid (all months for the last 12), does that not coun't for anything.
I know insurance companies will try and get out of paying for things, but this just winds me up!:mad:0 -
On another note...is it worth me making a complaint with easyMoney, or is this rule set out across the industry.
Thanks.0 -
That is a rule as set out across the industry I am afraid. if a policy is cancelled part way through its term then you will lose the months no claims you have earned as they only earned in complete years. This is standard.
All months payments were not made though as you said you did not pay September, hence them cancelling the policy.
You are going to have to take this one on the chin I am afraid!

Not only will you only have 3 years NCD but you have to declare you have had a policy cancelled which means many insurers will not touch you now... failure to declare it would be fraud which will simply worsen your situation further as then not only would you have to declare something to insurers but almost anyone you have lending with/ apply to have in the future would see a fraud loading against you.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Try and get out of paying for what? All they are doing is refusing (quite rightly) to not send out proof of 4 years NCB - his doesn't cost them anything! Thanks for the quick reply.
