EON and RHT meters

Hi I'm glad I found this site after getting very frustrated with the service I am getting from EON. I moved into my grandfathers property after he sadly passed on, he had been with EON for a few years and I decided to carry on and see what my first bill would be like. I have an RH2 meter and a normal meter in the property, my grandfather also used gas but I have had this removed and a couple more storage heaters installed. When I got my bill I was quite shocked at the price considering I was told that storage heaters were meant to be cheaper! I worked out that I was on EONenergy plan. The guy had been round on 21st December to read my meter which I was fine with until the bill arrived - he had only read one meter! so the other reading was an estimate.
I phoned up on 14/1/12 and spoke to a guy called Scott, he advised that I was on the energyplan and we discussed that I had RHT and had stopped using gas. I asked him to find out what our options were and he said he would look into it and ring us back on Monday 16/1/12, I also gave him the new metre reading. He said he would send me an up to date bill. No phone call was received but we got a letter saying thankyou for changing your energy products????? we hadn't agreed to anything - Scott was supposed to be phoning up to discuss this with us and so we phoned again on 21/1/12 and complained that we had not agreed to any changes and were advised that Scott was dealing with our case and that the lady would email him (copying in his team leader) to again ring us back.
We still did not receive the phone call and phoned again on 24/1/12 speaking to yet a different person who did not understand what RHT meters were! but he would also email Scott and his team leader to sort our case. Very annoyed at yet more poor customer service and now its 29/1/12 and still no phone call from EON.
Since reading the various threads especially the thread from Malc at EON I'm thinking why couldn't Scott just explain that there is only one tariff for RHT users - was that not simple?
We are still awaiting Scott to get back to us but I was also confused as to why in the first place was my grandfather not put on the RHT tariff? and why bills cannot be split? I have one meter for the RHT for my storage heaters and hot water, one meter for all the other electrical appliances which should be charged at on peak and off peak rates seperate to my RHT tariff and then when I had gas my gas tariff? why are the systems not set up for this? as it appears that most people who have RHT meters have the others and should be charged correctly as well.
The other query I have is the RHT energyplan 24 states you pay 25.851p per kWh for first 900kWh per year and then 12.705p afterwards which is fine (which was explained to my father that you either had a rate for the power and a standing charge or you had an escalated rate for the first period and then a lesser charge for the rest) but then on the same tariff I see I have also a standing charge at 7.392 per day and Rht normal of 7.445p per kWh???? why if I'm paying the higher rate for the first 900kWh am I also being charged a standing charge?? This is all things I would have asked Scott or someone who knew about RHTs! if they had contacted me as I was told they would. Please help!

    Hi ccshasl2

Firstly, please accept my sincere condolences for your sad loss. I know the upset this can cause.

I'm also really sorry for the poor service you've received. There's no excuse for not making promised call backs.

From your post, it looks as though you're on the correct tariff (RHT Energy Plan 24) for the metering set up at the property.

The letter advising of a change of energy product may be an automated letter following the removal of gas. However, I'm speculating here and could be wrong.

RHT meters provide electricity at a cheaper rate at certain times during every 24 hour period. They tend to be specifically designed for all electric properties with storage heaters similar to your set up.

As such, they're usually wired directly into the heating/water heating circuits at properties.

Have your new storage heaters been wired in to the RHT circuits so as to take advantage of the cheaper rates?

As you say, with this type of set up, electricity for normal household appliances like washing machines, lighting, TVs, etc goes through one meter; whilst usage for heating/water heating during the off peak times goes through the second RHT meter.

Also, any electricity used for heating/water heating outside the off peak periods is recorded by the first meter and charged at the higher rate. It's important, therefore, you're aware of the times the off peak rate is active so you can set your heaters/water heater to take full advantage of the lower rates.

Let us know if you're unsure of the off peak times. We can quickly let you know when they kick in.

With this type of tariff, all usage going through the first meter is charged as per our normal set up. This is with a first tier (primary) rate for the first 900 kWh per year and a second tier (secondary) rate for all other usage.

Unit prices here are very similar to our standard product.

Usage through the second RHT meter is charged differently. This meter has a daily Standing Charge instead of the primary rate. All usage recorded by this meter is then charged at the lower off peak rate.

Discounts are available for prompt payment and payment with a Monthly Direct Debit.

Sorry again for the lack of response you've received ccshasl2 but hope this clears up a few things for you. Give me a shout if you need any more info. Drop an email to the address in my Profile if you prefer as will be happy to help.
