Hi,
Looking for some help please!
Am getting a train to London Paddington this week, arriving around 8/9am and need to get to St.Pancreas. Not sure whether we will be going by tube or cab for the journey as my DH is scared of the tube!!
Please can you tell me how long it should take around this time on a week day to get between the 2 stations if we take the tube or cab?
Many Thanks in advance!

For the tube, if you enter your journey details here:
http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2?language=en
it should give you an idea of how long it will take.Stompa0 -
Tube gets pretty busy from 8 onwards so as long as you get in before that you should be OK.
Where are you coming from to get into Paddington? If it's Reading be careful as the trains are VERY VERY busy in the mornings, you will likely be standing.
Personally, I would go Paddington -> Baker Street on Bakerloo South then Baker Street -> King's Cross St. Pancreas on Metropolitan line (whereas TFL tells you to go to Edgeware Road)
Why is DH scared of the tube? That time in the morning there's always staff about.0 -
Presumably you will have luggage with you? Take the most easily transportable you have as there will be a bit of walking to do and stairs etc to negotiate. I would suggest a cab as the geographical distances are not too far, but at that time in the morning traffic can be very heavy and it will cost a fortune.
Most people don't enjoy travelling on the tube but this is different from fear. Plan ahead so you know which lines to take and in which direction (north and eastbound), the system is well marked out so don't be nervous of getting lost.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I'm doing the same journey but in reverse in May and don't do the tube either. There is a 250 bus between Paddington and St Pancras. If you go on the transport for london site and then untick the tube option, it will show you all the other options to get between the two stationsThe Cabbage

OP, believe it or not, I also used to be scared of the Tube, but it was actually the deep tight wormhole tunnels I was really scared of, and not the ones like District and Metropolitan which are actually just long bridge type tunnels in cuttings and under steel framed buildings with room to breathe and notice the world going by the other way

If it is that type of claustrophobic fear then the "Tube" from Paddington to St Pancras is no big deal. The carriages are big enough for a 7 footer to stand up straight in with headroom even next to the doors and there's even some daylight sections.0 -
How serious is the tube phobia? By far the most obvious thing to do would be simply to get the Circle/Hammersmith & City line five stops; allow 15 minutes for the journey. Assuming you'll be travelling on a weekday it'll be pretty busy but doable provided you don't have that much luggage.maisiescamp wrote: »Hi,

Taxi could end up relatively pricey due to congestion, although it's not a massive distance. Also sometimes there's a queue for taxis at the big railway stations.
There are buses which go from not that far from Paddington (check TFL website), otherwise you could just walk the whole way (this'd take about 35-40 minutes) or take a Boris bike (10 minutes or so).
I think that's covered all your options.0 -

.
The TfL site reckons an hour for an average walking speed, 46 minutes fast.0
