If you haven't already, keep detailed notes of all your attempts to deal with EDF.
You can complain to Consumer Direct at http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Diol1/DoItOnline/DG_195918.
I did that regarding a problem not as bad as yours sounds, and somebody from EDF telephoned me within a few days as they had been contacted by Consumer Direct. Very helpful guy phoned me, agreed to send me a letter detailing their approach to what I was questioning. He even gave me his direct number. Letter never came so I phoned him and he said he'd send it again. A letter did arrive this time, but it didn't explain the issue and I left it there as it won't stop me leaving them.

As already said, don't give them readings online, but do keep your own record of regular readings and work out what you have used should have cost you, as best you can. Keep that money (or at least the difference between that and what you have paid) to one side, so that you can cleanly settle the bill.

I'd suggest trying Consumer Direct - it might kick EDF into action.

You should always make a formal complaint with EDF as they won't resolve it otherwise. As macman says this then starts the clock ticking and they have to respond within a certain timeframe. If they don't you can than take your complaint to the Energy Ombudsman can force EDF to resolve your complaint.
