santander current account application

Hi, I recently applied for a preferred current account online with Santander bank. I was expecting to get an instant decline as I was in a trust deed until recently however, I was asked to send proof of ID, have I passed the credit check?

No answer I'm afraid. Could have but they might not have.

Quite why people open up accounts with Santander is beyond me. Search these forums and you'll probably find 100 complaints in the first 10 pages.

Well they didn't even do a full credit check with me. They did a soft search on Experian and an ID search on Equifax and that's it. They even gave me an overdraft, and I didn't ask for one, without even doing a full search, which I thought was odd!

Me too. Even when smartish MSErs report "opening XYZ account to get ABC benefit from it" (i.e. they've actually thought through the decision and are trying to play the banks at their own game - which is great), I always think "no amount of hassle is worth ABC" (cashback, interest rate etc.).

I guess some people are happy with them, but I just don't think it's worth the hassle. Hope that the OP of this thread is one of the happy ones (they do pop up occasionally on here).

I only opened the account for the £75 quidco cashback, the £100 "switching" incentive, and the 5% interest on £2500. Easiest £275 I've ever made. Haven't had any hassles with them at all so far. The 2 SO's and the DD I set up on my Halifax account, have switched no problem, and was all set up really quickly. Can't complain so far to be honest, as much as I'd like to be able to!
