1280 and TalkTalk.

My line is with BT and my calls are with TalkTalk. Now and then i used to make calls with 1280 in front so that i will get the caller display and 1571 service from BT for free.

My bills are online and must admit I did not check them thoroughly. When I do check it i find that i am chargerd for these services. I put it down to not makling 6 billable calls per quarter to qualify for free caller display and 1571 service.

Last night i made two 1280 calls to my mobile. Checking my BT bill online today these calls are not displayed.

having a quick search on the internet i found old posts saying that some providers have blocked 1280 calls. Those calls will now go through your call provider, in my case TalkTalk.

Is that true? How can i qualify for the free service? I wish to stay with TalkTalk because my family are on TalkTalk and the calls are free.

While doing a search i read somewhere that these services can be free for the disabled. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for any replies.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems :( Well at least i learn something on the way :D

You probably cannot make the calls via BT because of the way Talk Talk now provides your calls package.

However, you could try (there was some talk of success doing this a while back), go onto the Talk Talk forum and ask to be put back onto a true CPS package.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
