Consumer Money Matters. Can you trust them?

We used the mentioned to claim PPI from a mortgage from a few years ago.Having been told we were possibly in line for near on 5k we thought great go for it.That did only take 20-30 mins to sort. The next 60 - 100 mins were spent getting the hard sell on wills and other products along with tragic life stories this guy seemed to have gone through including telling us he used to work for the mortgage company we were claiming against and the reason he left was because he could see what was happening regarding the PPI scam!!
I work in sales and am discusted with myself for letting this chap into our house.
Having been told it could take up to 14 weeks we certainly wasn't expecting a letter no more than 5 days later saying are claim was unsuccessful. Now knowing how long solicitors and accountants take in doing anything i am a little skeptical that they have done anything or knowing there is a good amount money are keeping for themselves.I didnt mind paying their 29.5%!!
How can i go about checking if they have claimed for me or not because to be honest i do not think they have done jack!!!!

MPPI is very easy to tell whether it is mis-sold or not (to a degree that is likely to result in redress or not). It is the least successful in complaints of all the types of PPI. Partly as it is probably the only PPI that is considered worth having and partly as many were put in place by qualified advisers under an advice process rather than sold under a sales process (Advice process should have factfind, needs analysis and report issued - i.e. a good audit trail - credit card and loan PPI has none of that).

[TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] The average PPI redress payment is just over £1200. Your data is not in the public domain. [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM] Many consider the sales tactics of claims company reps to be closer to advance fee fraud. (entice you with a big payoff that is unlikely but your greed kicks in and that blinds you to common sense and you fall for it)

For a complaint to be rejected by a firm within 5 days would indicate that there was no remit to complain under. The process normally sees an acknowledgement letter received within a week outlining what they see your complaint to be and explaining what happens next. This is unless your complaint is not one that they have to answer (for example, if you used a mortgage adviser and the MPPI is pre-regulation (Jan 2005) and no previous regulatory body covered them then they can reject the complaint straight away without even looking at it.

Without knowing what your complaint reasons were and what the rejection was it is hard to say.

I believe these are the same bunch of crooks that repeatedly call me (using a machine) to tell me that I'm due a PPI refund (I never had a PPI policy in my entire life) or else that they can help to get my debt written off (I have no debt, not even a mortgage these days). So certainly they can't be trusted to know what they say they know about your affairs.

The calls always come from "withheld" numbers, so I had to press "5" to say I was interested to find out who they were. Now they say that it's legal to call me because I responded to their "survey".

When the Information Commissioner’s Office started "naming and shaming" nuisance callers (November 2012) this company were there in the top 10. And they are still at it. Sad that their dodgy tactics work often enough that they are still in business. Sadder still that the laws that were supposed to protect us from these villains seem to have no teeth.
  • Chordeiles, i know the feeling I have been getting their calls on my work mobile. Step four below solves the problem for me.

    Here’s my two cents in preventing nuisance calls;
    1. Don’t get mad, get even.
    2. Organise your self a free 070 premium rate number (UK). It’s free to you, but can cost £2 per min for the caller. Remember to use this number on any forms you complete, competition forms are the worst. If they call you five times a day, that could cost the offending company £10. If everybody uses this tactic, they will go broke and that is music to my ears. I personally hate companies selling my data to other companies which have no interests for me. I would bet they do not respect the fact you selected option that states “do not pass my details to third party.”
    3. Register your land line and mobile on TPS, it does take 28 days to process and they have no control with oversea companies. If you do get calls, take note of date/time/company names/their call back number and any other info and report to TPS
    4. If you do answer the nuisance calls and it’s NOT an automated message, be polite to the agent, talk to him/her. Remember they are on commission, so waste their time. State you are interested in their SCAM products. Give them false info. If you can arrange a rep to visit, do it at a local caf! and don’t turn up. I think you get the idea. This is probably where lying would be acceptable even if it’s not in your nature.
    5. Remember, spending a small effort like I suggested may save you/family/friends headache.
    6. Feel free to pass my ideas to other websites, let’s make it expensive for these offending companies to cold call.
It’s fun to get even :D
