in november 2011 I parked my car at the local pier and left the car for 5 min, when i returned there was a parking ticket on my car (£40). It was around 5pm on a sunday. i was not aware that you had to pay to park there on a sunday and the signs there stating that you had to display mon - sun were not light up at all. as it was 5pm it was very dark, and i have taken photographic evedence to show the lack of lighting and visability. i searched the internet for help and found the money saving expert article on private parking tickets. i followed the advice to ignore the ticket and have recently recieved a formal demand asking for £60 and to reply within 14 days or it will increase to £78 plus further administrative costs. i am worried that these costs will cary on increassing and i will end up having to pay alot more than if id payed the inital £40. please help

Doesn't matter what they increase the invoice to, the advice is to ignore them and their powerless agents who will write to you next, they are issuing an invoice that can not be enforced, only a council or the police can issue a penalty , so these are neither so just ignore, do not appeal do not communicate with them.
Please read the sticky threads at the top of the forum to educate yourself on this scam that blight motorists in the UK.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0 -
Would you pay those pesky nigerians who tell you that you have won £1000000,but have to pay £30 to get it?Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0

If you are silly enough to pay the original £40, they will come back asking for more citing late payment charges. Once the scammers have got a payer they will try and shake them to get some more money out of them.
The landowner has suffered a small loss, of 1/12 of whatever the (poorly displayed) hourly rate is. Which I can bet isn't £480 an hour, therefore the amount the PPC is asking is a contractual penalty in a contract you were meant to have entered into by not-seeing the unlit signs. If they do decide to do court they would be laughed out0
