Any intensive driving schools in NI?

  • has she had any driving experience before? intensive courses don't really teach you the skills that you need for driving for life and in terms of driving confidence, you don't really get time to build up your confidence on the road.

would she not prefer to use an instructor and do perhaps 3 x 2hr lessons a week? that would give her plenty of tuition and perhaps inbetween times you could take her out for extra driving experience.

In my experience, the learn in a week schools are teaching you how to pass a driving test and not how to drive safely in the longterm. (just my opinion though)

If you are asking me, about my wife... she did loads of lessons and took her test twice a couple of years ago, was failed for no good reason on both occasions by an examiner who seemed to take a dislike to her. It all got messy, complaints made, this examiner is now not allowed to take her on any future tests but the whole thing put her off and her theory expired last spring.
In the meantime, as she has been kept on the insurance (works out much cheaper that way) she has driven the car with me supervising a few times, just to stop the rust forming.
She's now re-doing the theory and then will need hopefully no more than a quick refresher to get her up to scratch again.

    Here's hoping..

I'd look to book a local instructor for a couple of hours a week then instead of paying out for an intensive course on a weekend or over a week. If she only needs to brush up on her skills then you'll save money on a few lessons rather than the courses which seem to start around £250 and the test fee on top.

I passed in august after 2 failed tests with the same examiner, Its totally undermining so i can see how she feels, imagine my panic when on my 3rd test, the same bloody examiner came out again!

I told him straight away that he'd failed me twice and I wasn't holding out much hope for today. I drove worse than I had on my previous two tests because I just lost interest and felt that he would be failing me anyway so what was the point. He passed me with 4 minor faults! I couldn't believe it lol.

I hope she gets passed before having the baby. Make sure you update x
