Civil Servant mis-sold PPI?

I am a Civil Servant and have been since the 80's.
I took out several credit cards in the 90's, but can't remember whether or not I ticked any box for PPI?
I know that if I had known that PPI would not have paid out due to my employment benefits that I would not have applied or continued paying for such insurance. After all, I was a bit naive back then, but am more on the ball these days.
I have my statements going back to then showing PPI as I am a bit of a horder of such post and have not come across any additional correspondane about PPI if such boxes were ticked. I don't believe I was provided with any documentation about whether or not PPI was suitable for me. I know that they would have known about my employment status from the start as you had to declare your employment status on the application, so they knew I was a Civil Servant.
All cards have been settled in the last six years.
Am I correct in assuming that I have a stong case for being mis-sold. I have come across similar posts for mortages and loans, but not for credit cards.
Much obliged for you sound feedback.

That or you misbought. However, the way things are now either can get your a redress payment if you complaint for the reasons you have given.I have come across similar posts for mortages and loans, but not for credit cards.
Its the same principle. A few things dont work across the different types (i.e. you dont get single premium PPI on a credit card) but the eligibility or financial need issues apply across the board.
Stick your complaint in with the reason you have and state in it that you have statements going back that far as it is highly probable that they wont and will need to call on your copies to get the information.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
