Well just to let you no, its took a few months but I have finally got to the bottom of this. Once I had transfered all my direct debits to my other account I made a complaint, through the complaints procedure to natwest. Its took a few weeks but today I have received a response. I was asked to ring a number and speak with some one about my complaint. It turns out there was a discrepency in my information they had on fail regarding previous addresses, which led Natwest to make the desision to close my accounts. After going through my details and updating the information, my accounts will no longer be closed.
Thank you to everyone for the replies, I have to say that this has caused me much concern and your replies have been a lot of help to me.

And another update to this thread, today I have received a letter stating that £75 compensation has been paid into my account, perhaps Natwest are not so bad after all!!
  • Yes we're not that bad. Most of the time...

From the way you've described what the bank came back to you with, "address discrepancy" could have triggered a fraud-related reason to close the account, or a lending related one. If they had an old address on file for you and someone now living at that address has done something "bad" like commit fraud or default on their debts. Occasionally this sort of thing does happen but it's rare. Glad it's been sorted now though, and Natwest offered fair compensation.
