Car insurance when moving abroad

If you have car insurance in the UK and decide to move abroad (beyond Europe anyway) can you cancel and claim back some of the fee when you do go?

Alternatively do UK insurance companies cover you abroad?

Just interested as it is something I am considering and this issue popped into my head so thought someone on here may be able to enlighten me as to how these things work!

Yes some policies cover you but only for a set time eg 90 days but you would have to ask the insurer, some may well cover you automatically and some will cover you if you pay the extra fee. You would also have to check if said country your going to is covered by the insurer.

If you are moving abroad, there will be very few insurers that will continue to cover you if you are no longer going to be a UK resident.
This is usually one of the questions asked when taking out motor insurance.
