no water through bath tap/shower

Options
My bath tap / shower (connected in one unit attached instead of taps) has stopped bringing water through or has a small trickle. How do I know what's wrong? My boiler keeps losing pressure aswell. Any advice?
I have a combi boiler (no water tank). The tap is a sealed unit, one knob to turn shower/tap on and off, one for temp control.

Have you repressurised the boiler using the filling loop?
If it continues to lose pressure, you either have a leak somewhere on the CH circuit, or a sticking pressure relief valve-check the outside pipe to see if it's discharging.

Is the boiler showing a fault code?
This happens to us about once a year and we have to top up the boiler. There are two taps underneath, we have to turn these until the pressure is back up to 1 bar (not sure if thats the same pressure for all boilers - but its what our plumber told us to do it to) we hit re-set and hey presto - shower time :)

just thought - do you have a pump? we have to re-set that was well
  • no pump, and I re-pressurise 2-3 times per week.
The shower now no longer pulls water through at all - could it be we need a new shower? It's a desk mounted thermostatic bath/shower mixer.

Then you should get this problem resolved before you do anything else! Once or twice a season would normally be enough.
Have you checked the PRV yet?-it's a 2 minute job.

The bath tap shower issue is not the same as the boiler issue.

Simply put the thermostatic cartridge has failed in the "tap" or there is a blockage in the pipework or a combination of both. You don't need a new shower - you need to fix what you've got.

The boiler is probably a PRV issue as already indicated or an expansion vessel issue.

  • Take a pic of your shower set up so its a bit easier to understand what you have.
I've never come across a "desk mounted" thermostatic bath/shower mixer before. ;)
