Faulty vacuum cleaner/ proof of purchase

We bought a Vax hoover last august and ever since the suction on it is awful, it spits out more than it sucks up!
Were looking at getting a dyson from comet, which is the same place we bought the Vax from.
I just want to check that because we don't have the receipt, a bank statement is enough to prove purchase and we can take it back as faulty and exchange for a dyson?
Is that right?
Thanks

yes, it usually works fir me. Also they should be able to trace the purchase0

Not quite, although the bank statement is enough for proof, if the product is faulty it doesn't mean they will take it back. They have the right to repair or replace it if they want. You can ask for an exchange but they don't have to give you one if it's easier for them to fix the VAX.0

Vax are a pain, I wouldn't expect a refund or an exchange - your hoover will need to go back to Vax for repair. You have to wonder how a retailer is supposed to react to you going in in near enough February and saying it hasnt worked since August...0

Hopefully if we are taking back a £125 hoover to exchange for a £220 hoover they shouldn't complain as we are giving them more money! Fingers crossedIf you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all0

But it's not a £125 Vax anymore, it was when you bought it 5 months ago. Let us know how you get on.0

If only the world worked like that...I'm afraid you might be disappointed, if you do get an outcome its not down to any law, but purely goodwill.0 -

You're definitely not getting an exchange, you'll be getting a repair.0 -
so when we walked in, there was a woman waiting at customer service in front of us with exactly the same hoover and exactly the same problem! they told us to go home and clean the filter and if its still broken they will replace it for the dyson, we've cleaned it and its still broken so we have to go and get the dyson as soon as we canIf you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all0
