Is Reclaiming PPI for me? And pointers please :)

Hi,
In 2009 I had to go BR, so thought reclaiming ppi was a waste of time, as it would all go off to the taxman etc. But, i keep getting ppi phonecalls, and for a change, yesterday i didn't ignore one. Well, the lady said that any loans etc that were not included in the Br, and had been paid off were eligible for reclaiming the charges/ppi.
I had a 5k loan with Abbey National that i managed to pay off completely( wanted to finish repayments on at least one before going br). It got me thinking of all the over charges etc that contributed to the debt years ago, and wondered if what this lady told me is true?
Plus, where do I start? I think i still have the old loan agreement, and remember being very naive about loans etc, as I'dnever had one before, and just signed all the boxes, I had the impression I wouldn't be allowed the loan if I didn't.
Is it worth trying? Where do I start, as I don't know whats SARs etc mean! Do I do it myself, or use one of these companies that keep phoning? Or another one?
Thank you for your help.

I think you can claim mis sell for any debt that was not included in the BR.
To get this verified,go on this thread
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=136
Put what the claims co said to you,and get the posters on the thread to confirm this.
If they say you can, then look here for reasons for mis sell..

If any/all apply to you, then put a claim in,you only need reasons for mis sell and the account number.
You can do this over the phone.

If you use a company, you will give them the account number and reasons for mis sell,if you get redress, they will take a %of your win and all for what you can do for free.0
