There is an old BT line that comes into the house but is not currently active.

It goes into a different room in the house and would like it to go into another for Sky connection in the future.

I am an excisting 02 mobile customer and see they do deals on their broadband/home phone for mobile customers over 2 years, do 02 install or reconnect? or is that a BT only thing.

If BT are the only ones that reconnect/install do they have a decent line rental/broadband package?

If you need a new (bt) line installing, then currently the best deal is the post office (they currently do it free!)

how does it work? do they have a deal with BT or do they send their own engineer? Was on BT's website they do it free as well for new contracts.

They use the same engineers as BT.

(The advantage with the po is there is no contract tie in - if you leave within 6 months they just charge you around £15 admin fee)

All physical work on the local loop is done by BT Openreach-nothing to do with BT Retail.
Go to www.samknows.com and do an exchange search for the LLU options available on your exchange. These will be the cheapest options.

Would it be cheaper going for the post office for install and home phone and 02 for broadband with the current deal?

Only problem i can see is the £80 cashback for 02 broadband ends on the 31st can i sign up for that before the phone line is installed?

Try, but you probably have to give them your phone number to place an order.
  • Whoever you go to for Line installation/Re-activation, if the records show an existing socket, then all they will do is re-activate the line. If you want it "installed" in a different room that will cost you big money. You'd be better fitting your own extension socket in the room you want if you have the correct Master socket, see here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/tools/bt-master-socket.html . If it is not one of those as detailed in step 4 (or 3 if it's had an ADSL faceplate fitted), then you need to specify that you "can't find a proper Master socket" when you order the phone line.
As has been suggested, have a look at the P.O. deal for the phone line.
See this for information on installing an extension http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=50467239&postcount=18

If O2 are LLU at your exchange, the you'll be able to get their best stand-alone Broadband deal as an O2 mobile customer, but it may be worth asking if they charge for installing a phone line, you never can be sure what deal you may get!

There is two old phone lines that come into the house but have not been active for years. Could i still get a new phone line installed through the post office for free instead of a reconnection because they have been off for years?

Yes. (If they can simply "reconnect", then they do that (no charge).
