Sony Super Bit

Anybody know anything about this technology?

Can i play these on a normal DVD player?

    yes you can.

    however you will struggle to see any noticable improvement in picture quality unless you have high end equipment.

    best one i have seen is region 1 "Panic Room" superbit.
    Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

    I disagree. With my £79 Toshiba DVD player and £799 Toshiba TV I did an A/B comparison between the normal and Superbit releases of 'The Fifth Element'. the Superbit release was much better in terms of detail and colour. The colour in particular is much more sumptuous and realistic.

    As long as you don't want all the extras which come on a standard release but are generally missing from the Superbit release, I'd recommend them. YMMV.

  • A Superbit DVD is just encoded at a slightly higher bitrate than a normal DVD. They should be playable on most DVD players (although some of the cheaper models might struggle a bit - stuttering the image) as there is very little difference in picture quality, they didn't really take off and the extra cost put most people off.
