    Wow, congratulations!

I am so pleased for you, what a great success story.

I hope it can give me the kick up the butt I need to get myself sorted, £20K+ on credit cards and a car loan :(

Got to the point now where I pay £648 a month in minimum repayments of which £462 is in pure interest charges - so am only clearing £186 a month off the debts, that's from a take home monthly wage of just under £1,000 a month.

I have had many nights where I've cried myself to sleep :(

Well done to you for proving you CAN do it :j

Did you use CCCS? They did a plan for me which said it would take 12 years to pay off what I owe assuming the creditors froze interest and charges....... 12 years :(

The £8000 loan that has dogged me for the last 7 years of my life is finally paid off!!!

I started this 5 years ago with £33k to pay off over 4 cards and 4 loans and now I'm down to the last £5k on a single loan...

Thank you all so much, I would never have got through the first six months without you. To all DFWanabees - hang in there :)

Well done, keep up the good work.

What an inspiring thread Clarab. You should be so proud of yourself. :T:T
Debt does have the most terrible effect on lives.
We've been able to clear a large chunk of ours as the result of redundancy and the relief is enormous. But I never ever want to go back to that stomach churning feeling of knowing that everything you buy is adding to your debt.
Need to make inroads to our interest only mortgage now:eek:
You've done it the hard way Clarab so all credit to you.:A

  • Wanted to add my congratulations to you too!!

I originally took out a second credit card some time ago for my sister and she had been struggling to pay me back, but thanks to the fancy credit card tarting as learnt on here, she is now down to her last £1000 and able to pay £200 a month so only 5 months to go and she is thrilled with the feeling she has every time it drops!

What is this snowball calculator you mention? Where do I find it?
All I have to work out my mortgage payments is an Excel file I made in which I input my APR and outstanding balance then compare the total amount paid (incl interest) and length of time by inputting different monthly payments in increments of £50. I've discovered that by doubling my monthly mortgage payments from £122 to £244 a month I save £4000 and reduce the term by 8 YEARS! Now THAT is what is keeping me positive!!

(In case anyone wonders about the small mortgage payments, I bought my flat just before the big hike 10 years ago and it cost £21,500)
