Help - When to Switch?

My contract with BG Dual Fuel comes to an end on the 29th Feb. I have completed a comparison of suppliers and OVO came out cheapest for me.
If i decide to switch will i have to wait until 29th Feb or can i set it up now via Simply Switch. I don't want BG to fine me an early exit fee.
Thanks

I have been advised our gas tariff is ending then too. I have checked my tariff rules and regs and they will charge me if I move elsewhere before that date but not if I stay with them and move onto another BG plan from 31 January. Presume will be the same for you. From 1st March will be put on standard tariff until the switch happens. My best deal is NPower apparently but will have to check again nearer the time.0

Thanks for your reply very helpful. Looks like i will have to wait then. Really annoying as the switch takes a time and i will have to pay standard tariff in the meantime.0 -
It takes 4 to 6 weeks to change suppliers so best to apply to a new supplier in a week's time to ensure you don't leave before the end of February.0

So if i sign up to OVO on say the 1st Feb would they contact BG straight away? If they do would BG then say i am leaving my contract early and charge me a fee?
Thanks for any help.0 -

Cooling off period applies. Runs for seven days and you can cancel in that time. Therefore if you sign up Feb 1st the earliest any other action will occur is Feb 8th.0 -

No, you remain in contract until you are on supply with OVO-which if you switch now, won't be less than 4 weeks.
When they contact BG is not relevant. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

A cancellation fee would only apply if the transfer took place before the end of the contract. So you would be safe if you arranged the transfer on the 1st.0 -

Sorry i am still confused. Would the 8th still be too early regarding my contract with BG? Would it be safer for me to wait until the day my contract ends?
