Free RAC breakdown cover with E.on energy
Anyone know anything about this?
I received a call from E.on last week confirming all my details for our planned switch to E.on from EDF enery (dual fuel). I had used all the MSE tips to qualify for cashback etc, so was surprised when the woman on the phone asked if I would like 12 months complimentary RAC breakdown cover. This was not something that was previously mentioned and I have had a thorough search and can't find any details of this offer on E.on's website or anywhere else for that matter. There is some mention of RAC and E.on jointing offering boiler cover with breakdown cover, but nothing that I could find anywhere on the internet about this. It seems odd to me to offer this sort of freebie without advertising it!
I did of course query whether this was one of those situations where you give a credit card number and then end up being commited for yonks at vast cost, but was told that no payment details are taken at all and I would simply receive a welcome pack from RAC.
I have now received a letter from E.on confirming the T&C of this offer and that refers to the RAC's T&C which I am yet to receive. It does, however, state that it is RAC's standard cover which does not include home start (and presumably other things).
Still, it's a freebie!

And will it be free next year or is this an offer to lure you in and then charge, although you say they have not taken any card details which is a good sign.0

Hi jap200
The RAC cover you mention is a limited offer for a trial period only.
It's 12 months complimentary RAC Roadside Cover. This is limited to certain selected customers and isn't available generally. Hence, it's not advertised on our website.
Customers selected to be offered the cover as part of the trial, like yourself, will be called directly by the team looking after the offer. It's not available through our usual sales channels and can't be requested.
Don't worry, it's legit, optional and free.
As I say, though, it's a trial only so not sure what will happen once the initial 12 month period is over.
Hope this helps jap200.

Hi Malc - thanks for clearing that up for me. It just sounded too good to be true to be honest - having read so many horror stories of this kind of thing on MSE in the past. There's no such thing as a free lunch and all that.
I will gladly accept this free offer and see what happens.
By the way, I do have a car - although E.on wouldn't have known that.0
