Adjusting the front door

Hi,
Since we moved into this house three years ago the PVC front door has always been a bit dodgy - you can't lock it with the key because it doesn't line up properly. When you close it, it locks and you can either open it from the inside with the handle or from the outside with the key but you can't lock it from the inside so that it can't be opened without the key.
However it's now got worse and it doesn't shut properly - you either have to give it a bit of a slam, or lift it slightly as you shut it for it to shut.
So, how do we go about fixing this..? Are there any easy ways of adjusting these kind of doors? Can upload photos of the fittings if that helps.
Cheers
Pete

some guides on how to adjust the hinges and striker plates.
there are a few types, but they are but a variation on a theme.Get some gorm.0 -
Our UPVC door has little allen key bolts in the hinges, so every so often I need to just raise each hinge a few turns with an allen key, then it fits perfectly again0

On some upvc doors you have to remove the cover on the hinges to get to the adjustment bolt. Make a pencil mark on the door and frame and when you turn the bolt you will see which way it is moving. Adjust the top and bottom hinge until it all lines up."Nil Sine Labore" - Nothing Without Labour0
