Why every few weeks does my puter stop recording browsing history? I need to do an IE reset, getting rid of everything, to start recording again. Set to 365 days.

in IE goto tools, internet options, general tab, then on browsing history settings at the bottom change the default of 20 to 365 - however you may have your own reasons for this, but frankly don't recommend it - better to save websites you want to revisit in favorites.0

1. Delete the history folder completely and let IE regenerate it from scratch. That'll probably solve your problem.
BUT...
2. A year?? Do you really need a YEAR's worth of browsing history?
3. IE9 is their best effort so far, but it's still the 4th best option behind Firefox, Opera and Chrome.I'm dreaming of a white Christmas.

It is already set to 365 as in my post.
I do lots of research using search engine results, industry websites etc, and its useful to be able to go back and find info previously found eg it stopped working Wednesday, on Thursday I found some stats on the percentage of the top 50 (?) UK online retailers who offered the option to collect at store, and can I find it now? I probably have the website in my favourites, but can I find the info on their site, either browsing or searching?illegitimi non carborundum0 -

A year is nice to have.....
Anyway, could you talk me thru the delete the history folder please?illegitimi non carborundum0 -
Maybe the size of the folder is too small to hold the data. In the same page as I listed above try increasing the file size, default on mine is 50mb, try doubling it?
Probably need to reboot to take effect..........
Find the history folder here in win 7
C:\Users\userid\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\History
it maybe hidden tho'0 -
Already set as 250Mb in Browsing History/Settingsillegitimi non carborundum0

I could have done with earlier versions of IE; it doesn't work like that anymore, apparently!
Anyway, seems you're not the only one to have had this problem.
See the last post on this page for a possible solution.

Thanks whitexmas. The index.dat seems to be the problem according to that link. I downloaded privacymantra, and ran it only selecting "deletion of index.dat". Looks like it deletes it on next reboot - presumably Windows will recreate it as part of reboot.illegitimi non carborundum0

So, rebooting left the history alone (only a day or so as I had just reset IE), but it removed all my "popular sites" from the About Tabs blank page.
Lets see if it did something good to the history.....will report back in five weeks or so.illegitimi non carborundum0
