I just find it amazing that people can complain about having to wait 6 weeks for something to be sorted - for free !!

I find it amazing that arrogant and ignorant (edited) can dismiss people's problems so lightly.

Yes, it's being sorted for free, but as I pay 100% of my rent, plus my council tax, plus an added "service charge" on top of my rent, I think that's the least I'm entitled to. Even if I lived in private rented accommodation, it would be the landlord's responsibility to sort it at no cost to myself.
Also, 6 weeks is a long time when you have two sick children. If you have kids, I'm sure you know in your heart of hearts that you'd be fighting this too.

Also, I was up at 8am yesterday morning waiting for the workmen. I'd double checked my doorbell was working, and was all ready to have the work done. The doorbell went at 10:10 (postman) and when I got to the door, I found a card had been put through from the workmen "sorry you weren't in @ 9:40am, we've cancelled your job"
I immediately phoned the council, who apologised and said the workmen would be back in the afternoon.
I phoned up at 4:30 after nobody had turned up, and was told I was a liar and that there's no way the workmen would just pop a card through and not try to gain entry (sure, because I wasn't waiting next to the doorbell or anything) and I was also told that no way was I promised they'd be back.
Cue one obnoxious council manager who spoke over everything I said, and eventually agreed to listen to the call.
I got a voicemail about 15 minutes later whilst I was feeding my son saying "you were right, the job was raised, no-one bothered coming back. The duty manager in the morning will call you". No apology or anything.

It's now 11:50, and still no call. Surprise surprise

Have just called the council myself, and was told I'd have to wait another 21 days for the next available appointment. Not impressed.

Oh, and when I went to pick up the letter from my GP, there was suddenly a £10 charge, and they wouldn't let me read it first to make sure it had all the necessary info :(

I find it amazing that you haven't noticed the site is set up into several different boards, not all of which are strictly about moneysaving. But then you obviously have some problems, your lack of empathy and understanding being the most visible ones.

Technically, I'm trying to save money here. If the council fix it, I can stop spending money on extra bleach, fungicide etc.
Also, this is a "Praise, VENT & warnings" & I'm venting.
If you have such an issue with this thread, please feel free to toddle off somewhere else, you won't be missed thanks.
I've had some fantastic and helpful replies to this thread, all of which I'm incredibly grateful for. It's a shame that there's always someone like you to lower the tone...

It's obvious you are only posting to make digs. Please ask yourself if it is really necessary? At the moment, your posts are not helpful to the situation and really only show you up.

Can I just say that the sort of damp you seem to have is usually down to lifestyle??? Put a small glass mirror in the freezer for an hour, take it out and go into the offending room, does it mist up and does the mist stay for a while? If so you need to get rid of the moisture in the air, open windows daily plus heat the room.
As this little experiment shows any moisture in the air will be attracted to a cold surface, usually a poorly insulated outside wall and the windows, this can be helped by improving the insulation but you also need to work on removing the moisture from the air or it will find somewhere else to condense on.

    UPDATE

The council workers came yesterday. The fungicidal wash was applied, now to see of it works.

The shoddy windows that are causing a lot of the issues are still, well, bug*ered.!

With regards to the window guy not coming on Tuesday afternoon, the council admitted it was not fair to make me wait another 3 weeks, and agreed to send someone out yesterday morning, and I was told he'd be here betwen 8 and 9. A bit inconvenient as it would mean we all had to be up early (my husband usually works until 11:30pm, so we're a family of night owls.)

Anyway, the guy who was doing the fungicidal wash turned up at 10:40 yesterday morning. He had a look about, and then went down to his van to get his things.
Whilst down there, he got a call to tell him that the window guy (now almost 2 hours late!) was on his way, and not to apply the wash to a window until it had been realigned, had the seals replaced, and had the silicone removed and replaced and he had been given the all clear by the window guy.

Well, Bob the window man turns up, and looks at my windows, and starts spraying them with WD40. I asked what he was doing, and he replied "making sure your windows open and close"
I told him they did, and asked him about the other work he was supposed to be doing. He told me he wasn't doing anything else as he hadn't been told to. I called the council, who apologised for not telling Bob what needed doing, and they called him and told him what to do.

Bob, however, refused. Told us there was nothing wrong with our windows (even the guy waiting to do the fungicidal wash was telling him he could clearly see what needed doing!)
Anyway, Bob told the other man to do the fungicidal wash, so he got started. The poor guy had to dig out all the seals himself in order to do the wash.

Bob lurked for a further half an hour, watching the poor mould guy dig the silicone out himself.
He then comes downstairs and says he'll be back Monday morning (didn't ask if it was convenient, just assumed.) to silicone the windows in. Until then, my house is even draughtier & freezing cold.
    Really pis*ed off now.

This is the second time that Bob has been sent to fix the windows, and the second time he's failed, and add to that the guy who didn't turn up the other day and we have a very unhappy me.
Bob decided that he wouldn't do the job he had been told to do as my windows are apparently not draughty. His basis for this? If there's a draught, it's impossible to get condensation.!
My windows leak when it rains, my curtains blow when it's windy (even with vents closed) and the damp inspector even confirmed this.!
Fed up of this now :(
