OK, if the problem is with EDF (who as I pointed out above reduced my payments for no reason even though I apprently owe them a lot) I can deal with that - but why did nPower not contact me? I wouldn't have known about nPower if BG hadn't contacted them to arrange the transfer, or however it works
THanks for your replies, Cardew, btw, I'm not trying to be difficult, I just want to understand this mess0 -
If the transfer was in the previous owner's name, perhaps they were getting the bills, so you didn't hear anything until they called nPower and cancelled their account? Or maybe nPower just didn't send out a welcome letter, the odd account slips through with all companies.0

Well thanks for your help tripled and Cardew, I've contacted the transco subcontrator who are sending me a report of the gas leak incident, so hopefully I can get the nPower bill reduced to something that looks like minimal domestic usage and not elephant barbequeing0

Listen, I've been talking to my wife about this, and what I've found via this thread, but something still isn't clear.
If the house we were in was already on EDF or not before we moved in, at some point there was a move to nPower which may have been a small error or not. This took place before we moved in, however whereas our request to EDF to bill us took place 2 days after we moved in.
Therefore surely the order of companies billing us above (at this house) should be Npower/EDF/BG ?0 -
This is getting rather complicated.
My 'theory' is that in your current house(Wilton Ave) you were on NPower when you moved in and changed direct to BG; so should only get bills from those 2 companies.
Your request to EDF to supply you at that house was never actioned(although they and yourself might have thought it was) and so you are just to deal with them for the account on your old house. The DD payments you have made to EDF while at your new house will have been credited to your account at your old house.0 -
What is the best way of establishing exactly who was billing me then? Is there a third party who can tell me, such as NationalGrid?0
-
Yes. Their number is 08706081524, speak confusing things at the automated system and it will give up and put you through to someone real. I find singing to it works very well. A broad Scottish accent may also confuse it.0

I'll try singing - cheers!0
