Plagued by scam callers? A helpful tip...

SHOW
I was plagued for months by scam telephone calls from an Indian call centre, every day at 1:30pm. They tell me that my computer has sent them error messages and they need me to log-on to their (very dodgy) website to rectify the problem. I asked them repeatedly to stop calling me, to no avail. Then I remembered my mountain rescue whistle... A few sharp and shrill blows down the phone later and a warning that I will be repeating this every time they call. I have not had a phone call from them for 2 months. Yay!

Takes some effort though, and they really arent worth your breath.
Just say 'one moment please' put the phone down to the side and forget it..................
Bliss.........................
Mind I did do that once and 20 mintues late I went back to the phone and he was still there :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Bless him, I gently put the phone back on the hookmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
As discussed thousands of times before, the best 'tip' available is do not share your phone number with anyone or anything at any time then you will simply not get calls like this.
NEVER enter your phone number on ANY sort of application etc.
Too many people inadvertently hand their details out then complain when they get spam be it email, mail or phone.0 -
I have a different tactic for handling this, just answering "Yes" to every possible question given. I've had quite a few people spend 5 minutes talking to me then I hear a scream of anger :rotfl:0

I never inadvertently hand out any of my personal details. I have registered my details with the mailing and telephone preference services and therefore should not get any unsolicited calls. However, this does not stop automatically generated number callers from India, which is what this nuisance call was.
This went on for months and I tried all kinds of tricks - leaving the phone on the side, hanging up straight away, speaking to them politely, then rudely. The only one that worked was blowing a whistle!0 -
My answer; computer? Nah mate I haven't got one of them far to expensive!
With regards to the whistle, I be to worried they would phone me again and do it back to me.0 -

Sorry, matey, but this is not helpful at all.
I've never given out my number to all and sundry and am registered with the telephone preference agency and another similar organisation and only close friends and relatives have my number. But I've been getting these nuisance calls for a couple of years.
My solution was to blast the callers with a very loud and shrill personal alarm. It seemed to reduce the number of calls to about one every 2 months. The last one was last week when again he asked for Mr X. I told him Mr X had died and did he want to come to the funeral.
Hopefully that will reduce these calls to nil.0 -
We just got rid of the land line.
Now if i get a dodge company come through on the mobile i set the phone to block the number.
Same with spam messages.
Its bliss. Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...0 -
I also had them on phone.
" What computer ?" me
" omg you not got a computer?" him
" no" me

I just answer, reply to any initial, trivial, questions, ther, once they start their spiel, quietly lay the phone down. It takes very little effort and wastes a bit of their time. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0

If it's the computer scam call I like to verbally abuse them before hanging up. If it's a generic Indian call I'll just hang up without saying anything. If it's a UK sales call I'll try to find out where they are calling from first and then hang up without acknowledging them.0
