Bedroom wall won't paint!

Hi there

I've been trying to paint over blue paint in my bedroom. I've been using magnolia emulsion but now on my 3rd coat and it won't stick! It still looks patchy and the magnolia is coming away as I brush on the next coats.


Any idea why this is happening and how to get around it?

What is the nature (finish) of the paint you are trying to paint over and what are you trying to put on it?

try a fine sandpaper fist.....then allow it to dry for a few days before applying send coat.

i had this on my house when i first moved in. the walls have prob been painted with a oil based paint in the past.

i had to get the walls replastered. did the prep work myself, watered down pva glue 'painted' on the wall then go a gov'y dun one saturday morning. cost me less that £100 for a 3.5m by 4m room

Thanks for help. The walls appear to be normal Matt finish paint but could be oil based

Think it means they got a plasterer in to re-plaster the wall. Only took a Saturday morning.

just to update you, I went to B&Q and they told me to try their own brand water based undercoat. That with 2 coats of emulsion and the old blue walls are gone!
