Halifax MPPI Claim

Hi Back in 1994 I believe that I was mis-sold my mortgage MPPI due to being advsied that it wasn't optional. I then cancelled this insurance in 2005, today I have now put my claim into Halifax as a mis-sold policy. I have been reading the comments on this forum and some suggest that if is difficult to prove that MPP has been mis-sold and noticed that some people suggest that Halifax are upholding claims at present to deal with backlog. Does anyone know if this is still the case? Halifax have told me I will here from them in 5 days.

THanks Karen

  • In 1994 some mortgage deals did make MPPI compulsory and even if it did not, taking it out was good advice.

It is also quite possible it was sold by a broker and not by the Halifax - so it would have no liability.

Halifax have been auto upholding to clear the backlog. However, no-one knows if that only applies to complaints before a certain date or will continue until they decide otherwise. It will stop at some point as its not logical for them to continue once they are on top of things as they will probably find they could reject half the complaints quite easily.

As magpiecottage says, back in 1994 it was not uncommon (indeed, it was almost the norm) for the purchase of a deal to require the an insurance product. Even today you see it sometimes. It is allowed today as well, just as it was then.
