When dealing with the idiots, ensure you keep good records of everything. Copies of all letters. Name, tax office, date, time and nature of call. This could become important when they realise their blunder, typically the next stage is to blame you for it and you'll see various posts on this site and others where the hapless victim gets caught up in a never-ending Kafka novel of jobsworthy processes and procedures.
You are behaving as a reasonable taxpayer, regardless of any jibes from Gassy Bogbrush or other HMRC stooges. Keep the evidence of this, just as an insurance policy.Hideous Muddles from Right Charlies0 -

And this shows the level of disrespect you have for the advisors at HMRC, a qualified accountant (I presume) taking a pop!
Oh and yeah always ask for a staff name, we'll provide it no problem but we do NOT have to provide our location.0 -
Hi for the last two days i have been ringing the 08457 number and sat on the end of a telephone with stupid music playing, all i want to do is advise the idiots they have completely messed up my tax code by approx 11K to my benefit.
I have tried again at 4.30pm today and now they advise they are unable to deal with any enquiries currently try again later ?? What a joke,if you are unable to contact them ,what are the alternatives
I would have tried to help had you not referred to us as "idiots".
Hope you get sorted.0
