When dealing with the idiots, ensure you keep good records of everything. Copies of all letters. Name, tax office, date, time and nature of call. This could become important when they realise their blunder, typically the next stage is to blame you for it and you'll see various posts on this site and others where the hapless victim gets caught up in a never-ending Kafka novel of jobsworthy processes and procedures.

You are behaving as a reasonable taxpayer, regardless of any jibes from Gassy Bogbrush or other HMRC stooges. Keep the evidence of this, just as an insurance policy.

And this shows the level of disrespect you have for the advisors at HMRC, a qualified accountant (I presume) taking a pop!
Oh and yeah always ask for a staff name, we'll provide it no problem but we do NOT have to provide our location.

I would have tried to help had you not referred to us as "idiots".
