application for card but can't use our own nationality

:)

hello all

Not sure what to call this really. so here goes not exactly a card thing I suppose

Credit card 0% barclays for two years as shown on this site and going throught this site.

Can anyone explain why we are not allowed to say what our nationality is on their application site??

I will try to explain, but before anyone says this
"does it matter", this is important and matters to me.

name and address and factual answers to questions are ok. But barclays ask country of nationality, simple question but the answer cannot be given by no one to my knowledge. My answer is English and always will be english born and bred in ENGLAND. So why on Barclays drop down box do they only let you click on UK? The UK (united kingdoms) is not a country and never has been, it is a collective term used to denote all of our countries in this land.....

I no not of any nationality for the UK? It is certainly not british.
British is a term used as the collective to depict the citizens of the combined kingdoms..... so I won't apply on line to barclay, but will be contacting them directly unless someone can give me a good reason why I cannot answer the question...

Oh dear, how sad, never mind.

PS. I suggest you look at what it says on your passport (probably best to ignore the European Union bit if you don't want to blow a gasket).

Get a life....and get your passport out and check what nationality is on that. Or don't you have a passport on the same principle.

    Does it matter?

As for why you cannot answer the question, the truth is you can answer it but you are choosing not to.

England is not a nation but a region within the island of Great Britain, together with Scotland & Wales. With Northern Ireland they form the country known as United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

English is a region description and not a nationality, as is Scottish, Welsh & Northern Irish. Irish is valid when applied to somebody from Eire. Possibly British should be applied to all people of Great Britain regardless of which region they are from.

So you've posted to tell use us that you don't like the barclaycard online application form so won't be applying for a barclaycard online?

I can't see there is actually any question that you want anyone on here to answer?

I guess the reason for the use of UK is that they want that option on that field to refer to the area covered by the UK. Not just the area covered by the use of Great Britain and not all of the land covered by the term British Isles.

The problem with the use of 'British' is that it can be difficult to determine whether it is being used to mean people of Great Britain or people of the British Isles.

The UK is a country. It's not an imaginary construct to group together these nations, it is a sovereign country in its own right. England is a non-devolved nation, part of the UK. You can consider your nationality English, but it's not your legal status.

As for the nationality of the "UK", I see no reason why it wouldn't be British for most of us. UK is short for United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, so logically most people are British and some are Irish. It would be insane to create a new term for the UK, and I suspect you wouldn't like it if they did, so for now ... British it is.
This is everybody's fault but mine.

You should likewise send your passport back to the Identity & Passport Service complaining that "British Citizen" in field 3 on the photo page is incorrect. Ask them to reissue the passport and tell them you won't travel until they do so. I'm sure that what it states on your passport is much more significant to you than an application for a financial service.

Perhaps you expect Barclays to include the name of every separatist region in the world that is likewise unrecognised as a country by the international community, for example Abkhazia, Catalonia, Basque country and Somaliland. In fact, Abkhazia is recognised by six recognised countries, whereas England is recognised as a country by no recognised country, so Barclays should first add Abkhazia before they add England.

    .

I beg to differ .... "The United Kingdom is a unitary state governed under a constitutional monarchy and a parliamentary system, with its seat of government in the capital city of London. It is a country in its own right and consists of four countries: England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales"

Do you have an issue being associated with welsh irish or scottish people maybe lol
