I must be crazy....but!

I have a good Civil Service job -good, meaning relatively secure, benefits etc. Plus...its a job!
Problem? It is unbearable! Mainly the people I work with make it unbearable. Complaining all the time, negative, mentally abusive..you name it.
I have wasted almost two years of my life putting up with this. Almost every day of the last two years have been filled with dread.
Am I crazy to want to leave a good job in a time when the economy and job situation is sooo bad?

No, you're not crazy at all... being in an unbearable job is very difficult, no matter how secure and well paying it is!
If you can hold out then I'd be looking for another job whilst working in your current one...0 -
When you say mentally abusive, what does that entail? Are they abusing you?0

The lucky people are the ones that can say they really enjoy their work. For the rest of us probably money is the main reason we get out of bed in the morning and you've got to sit down and work out if you could live on less but be happier doing something you enjoy.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

In a recent survey of contractors it was actually the work itself that came top of the list of deciding factors, the money was actually second.
Contractors are slightly different of course to the normal employee and so its not surprising that job security/ contract length was low down the list, but I am not sure if the order of the actual job -v- pay would be any different?
I know personally whilst salary was a consideration, I did at times accept lower pay in exchange for more interesting work and/ or better prospects.0 -
OP if it makes you that unhappy, start looking for something else....... You don't have to stay in that role.0

Can you ask for a transfer or apply for internal roles?0
-
Thanks...great comments/advice
I could apply for internal roles, but it would mean that I would have to stay in my role for atleast two months....minimum if i get another internal role. Yep, sounds irresponsible not to atleast move internally rather than become unemployed. But, it really is that bad!
So, is it really bad out there? No jobs etc? News protrays it to be all doom and gloom - and more to come! Fun times!0 -
You have 2 years experience in that job OP, that's a reasonably long time and it's definitely going to be considered an advantage by other employers if you look for external roles.
Look at it this way, you are prob in the best position possible at the moment when it comes to finding a new job. It's always easier to find a job when you have a job!0 -
I would definitely try to stick around for two more months for an internal transfer. You could take copious amounts of holiday during that period
