Expedia over charged me

I booked some flights on Expedia. The total came to £850 and I have the email confirmation etc. showing this.
I checked my credit card account and noticed they charged me £1100.
I've called up 5 times now and keep getting told the issue is "under investigation" and can take 3 weeks to resolve.
I'm fuming - but what can I do other than keep calling to complain? I need that money back now.
Thanks for any advice.

Have you spoken to your credit card company and reported it as an unauthorised transaction, they may do a chargeback for the payment, but you might lose the flights.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

How did you get on with this in the end? I have an ongoing complaint with Expedia and after 3 calls (instigated by me), 1 call back from them and 9 e-mails from me (2 of which have been acknowledged), I've reached a point where I don't know what to do next.
They've promised me e-mails back and call backs and not followed through. Any calls seem to go through to an Indian call centre, with scripted calls, so I'm not getting anywhere.
Any suggestions on options open to me? Any UK based numbers I can try?
Thanks!
(Quick rundown- received e-mail from Expedia containing someone else's booking details- and their name, e-mail address and mobile number- sent from my account, telling me that my card has been charged for that someone else's booking. I have contacted that person to tell them about the data protection breach. I'm after reassurances that my card won't be charged and that they haven't sent my data out. They were "escalating it" and "would get back to me"....)Sealed Pot Challenge #1607

Can you check your card transactions online? Anything showing as paid or pending? If yes then raise an Unauthorised Transaction with your bank/CC company.0

I've put the complaint in writing via e-mail. Excuse the ignorance, but is that not suitable? Does it have to be in writing via snail mail?
Currently nothing gone from bank account, but have had to transfer enough funds in to cover it "just in case". Not an ideal situation.Sealed Pot Challenge #1607
