touch mouse pad not working ?

friend lent his laptop to someone .. when returned the mousepad bit by the keyboard doesn't work .
has had to buy a cheapo tesco mouse with usb for the time being
laptop runs windows 7 ... how do i fix it ?

Check in Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Devices and Printers, to ensure that it is there, with no errors, and enabled.
If not there, check in the BIOS setup, as many laptops have a setting there to disable the touchpad.0 -
Also check its not been turned off via a keyboard shortcut.0
